RELAXED OUTDOOR WEDDING INSPIRATION: DIY GUIDE

Anna & Robbie had such a relaxed outdoor DIY wedding, I couldn’t not put it on the blog! Their day was full of beautifully unique personal touches and creative decoration ideas that weren’t overly fussy but were still so effective and gorgeous. So many of my couples want to plan an outdoor DIY wedding too, so I wanted to share it here, in the hopes that it provides some beautiful inspiration for my future lovely couples!

Anna & Robbie borrowed their friends’ land, located on the outskirts of Bristol, to host their humanist ceremony & marque reception. The marque created the perfect backdrop and the field, in which it was set, created a beautiful blank canvas for their day whilst their reception really brought "the outside in" and they found harmony and balance between the two. This is the perfect way to connect an outdoor wedding ceremony with the rest of your day. The garden at their friends’ farm was the perfect size for your average wedding and had views over the nearby fields (great for group shots) which also lent itself to a stunning backdrop for their beautiful DIY ceremony.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF HAVING A RELAXED OUTDOOR WEDDING AT AN OUTDOOR VENUE WITH A CHILLED VIBE?

​

Having a relaxed outdoor wedding allows for a more casual and intimate atmosphere, surrounded by nature's beauty. It also offers unique photo opportunities, flexibility in decor choices, and can often be more budget-friendly compared to traditional indoor venues.

​

Anna & Robbie created a ceremony layout that worked so wonderfully and gave me so much freedom of movement to capture all of those lovely natural moments throughout their ceremony. Of course, being in the UK we did have a few spots of rain during the day, but the couple had gorgeous string lights, sofas and rugs, making the day feel cosy and comfortable whilst looking gorgeous and chic too! Having this set up at an outdoor ceremony allowed me to see the couple from every angle. I could get close-ups either side of the aisle, through the foliage, in between heads and also, I was able to get lots of photos of their guests’ reactions too, a win-win all round.

The creative decorations outside didn’t stop here, they had more imaginative and personal touches to wow me with after the ceremony too. Not only did they put beautiful decorations together, but they also made some incredible wooden furniture and homemade personalised wooden drink signs and a table plan, which matched the vibe of the day perfectly.

​

Being such a relaxed and fun-loving couple, the wedding breakfast & wedding reception was a chilled-out affair too. It appeared that they had thought of everything! Anna & Robbie had made floral hoops for their marquee, which created a stunning backdrop for their speech photographs, I mean how epic does that look (see below)?!

​

To top off this awesome wedding there was a cake table full of desserts, and a wedding cake made by Anna’s mum, with some gorgeous Polaroid photos that they captured on the day itself, which was an extra special/creative touch! 

​

Anna & Robbie then had the most epic fairground "Ferris wheel" & “friends” photo backdrop (with the purple wall and sofa included!) for their guests to enjoy in the evening, which was so much fun. As my day of shooting came to an end, I left a popping dance floor, with personalised sunglasses and the bride changing into an evening wedding dress - which was so stunning. And as I said my final goodbyes, I left feeling such joy of working with Anna & Robbie and their guests were hilarious too!

This wedding day was a dream for me to shoot as a wedding photographer, with Anna & Robbie's closest friends and all of the creative wedding ideas for the lushest casual wedding, where a beautiful couple had a fab time and their wedding guests had the best time too! It was definitely one of my favourite relaxed weddings from last year
