TIPI WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS FOR BEAUTIFUL WEDDING PICTURES

Tipi weddings are so popular at the moment and "The Orchard at Munsley" is the perfect spot for a Tipi wedding venue! This venue is simply stunning and perfectly set up for outdoor weddings and an absolute dream for Tipi wedding photography. If you're a couple looking to have the flexibility and freedom to do just about anything with your wedding venue, from personalised decor and individual catering, all the way to a completely flexible timing schedule for your day, then a wedding Tipi, at a venue like this, could be just perfect for you!

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF CHOOSING THIS TYPE OF WEDDING?

Choosing a Tipi wedding offers a unique and intimate setting that connects you with nature, whilst providing a cosy and romantic atmosphere, think fairy lights and dreamy wedding photography, in the perfect pairing. The versatility of Tipi's allows for personalisation, stunning photography opportunities, and a memorable experience that stands out from traditional wedding venues as well as providing a more relaxed and flexible feel.

Whilst it's undeniable that these types of weddings provide flexibility to make your day totally personal to you, they also require a little extra practical thinking and planning to make sure that everything is in place to be able to host such an event. I've photographed quite a few Tipi weddings now, and whilst the majority of my lovely couples say that they can require a fair bit of planning, ahead of time, they also all say that it was all totally worth it!

So, I wanted to write a blog post on my key wedding photography tips...

TIPI WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS FROM A PHOTOGRAPHER - WHAT'S IMPORTANT?

My key Tipi wedding photography tips & questions to ask yourselves to ensure you'll receive beautiful photos from your special day...(venue dependent)

  • Accommodation: Are there places nearby for your guests to stay - if not, you may wish to hire some luxury tents!

  • Parking: Is this available within the venue setting or, if hiring a field, is there a back-up option if it gets too wet?

  • Facilities: Are there toilets nearby, or will you need to hire some? There are some great luxury toilet hire companies out there!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Catering & Bar:

  • Catering: Every Tipi wedding I have been to, has been different when it comes to the food! I have photographed weddings that have had three-course meals, sharing platters, and/or wood fired pizzas! So please remember that just because your venue may be a little less traditional, you don't have to miss out on epic or formal food - you can go for whatever you fancy!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Things to think about though:

  • Access to electricity, water, fridges and prep area

  • Waiting staff                                                                                                                                                                    Bar: Each venue will have a different set-up with it comes to alcohol and an alcohol licence, so there are a few different options you could consider...

  • DIY: Hire the physical bar - buy the alcohol yourself and hire in staff and glasses

  • Go Half and Half: Hire the Bar from the Tipi company/venue or a Bar hire company and get someone to do the bar for you

  • Go quirky: There are lots of different ideas and options out there, such as horse trailers converted in to full bars, you could always ask local pubs if they do any external events too!

  • Photography: From a photographer's point of view when you are choosing your setting, try and think about a few things:  Is there a nice backdrop for photographs? I.e., are there trees, greenery, good views or shade? You can't always rely on great weather alone either, have a back-up plan for rain/extreme heat... which brings me onto the...

  • The Weather: Please please please, try not to worry about the weather on your day, as easy as it is for me to say (the met office app became my best friend in the lead up to our own wedding)! The great thing about Tipi weddings is that if the weather is amazing you can be outside as much as you want to be and even when you are inside, you can open the sides and bring in a breeze and all of that lovely natural light. Likewise, if the weather is very wet, (which trust me, I've had for so many of my outdoor weddings in the UK) Tipis are so cosy inside, keep their heat well, and if you see rain fall you'll rest easy, knowing you are dry & cosy! I remember one of my couples asking if Tipi's get cold and worrying about heating, trust me, with all of those bodies, it gets warm, really quickly, although a lot of companies do come with back up heaters usually too, but in all honesty, we've never used them at weddings I've been shooting at.                                                                         The main thing we did for our own wedding, and something I always recommend my couples do, is to plan for all the things that you would ideally like to do, if the weather was going to be perfect, but make provisions for the fact that this may change and have back-up options.

  • Decoration and Personalisation: Generally speaking, Tipi's offer a relatively neutral backdrop, so I always love to see how creative my couples get. It's important to allow enough time to decorate accordingly and if you don't have staff on board to help, definitely rope in some family & friends, and over-estimate the time it'll take so that you will have plenty of time and things will feel calm and organised.

  • Timings: As you are fully in control of your day, you can also be totally in control of all the days' timings. The only thing I would say on this point is think about the time of year you'll be having your wedding day and daylight hours that you'll have for this. You may want to consider the bright summer sun, and if your meal could be at the brightest point of the day, to avoid harsh family portraits OR have a slightly earlier schedule if you're getting married in the Autumn and know the sunset will be earlier, to take full advantage of the day's light!

Speaking of lighting,,,

WHAT ABOUT OPTIMISED LIGHTING AT A VENUE LIKE THIS?

Optimise Tipi wedding photography by leaning on natural light during the day for soft, flattering shots. At night, create a warm ambiance with string lights or candles. Your photographer will know how to get the best out of any lighting situation, but it's something that can really make a huge difference to the photographs and atmosphere captured in them.

I do hope that this blog post from a wedding photographer's point of view, full of Tipi wedding photography tips, has been helpful.

Rik & Tracey had such a beautiful ambience to their day and I felt so privileged to have captured their wedding memories. This venue was incredible, and I honestly couldn't recommend them enough and hope to work with them in the not so distance future too!
