SURREY WINTER WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

   Is there anything quite as magical as a winter wedding day? From the Christmas trees at a wedding venue to stunning wintry florals (like Brogan & Josh had on their wedding date), these seasonal wedding touches can add so much warmth and charm to even the frostiest of days.

​

I wrote a blog post in 2019 (see here) about my love for winter weddings and why they are so great and thought it was about time to do an updated version, so without further ado…

​

Here are a few updated tips on how to get the best out of your winter wedding...

​​

• Think venue space… - When selecting a venue for your winter nuptials, consider a space that will provide your guests with shelter from the cold whilst achieving the cosy aesthetic you’re after.​ You don't have to downsize your guest list to keep things cosy, however! Whether you’re selecting an alternative venue, or seating everyone at one long table, it's the details that create a feeling of intimacy!

• … & venue details! – Like Brogan & Josh created for their special day – it’s a great idea to mix contemporary elements into your winter wedding décor. Try juxtaposing a traditional wooden table with metal rustic colourful chairs for a hint of modernity (see below for examples at real weddings), or swapping out flowers for fresh greenery. Simplicity is key here. Alternatively, a wedding cake with modern details, featuring a geometric design will help to balance out more traditional elements (again, please scroll down to the bride and groom's wedding photos and their dessert table to see how it’s done!). At winter weddings, it’s also a good idea to think about bringing nature... inside! When incorporated into the tablescape, decorations, and even place cards, pine cones can serve as a chic accent. You can DIY glistening snow-covered pine cones or opt for a more natural look by introducing them into a garland runner, for example.

• Go with the weather - Skip the humidity and sweltering heat by opting for a winter wonderland wedding. Hair, make-up and any suit wearers will thank you for it!

​

• Add a bit of sparkle - Brogan had the most magical princess hairpiece, and she just looked so beautiful and elegant!

​

• Non-traditional materials - Josh went for a beautiful rich navy suit jacket in velvet – simple but effortlessly stylish and so doable for a winter wedding!

​

• Dried florals - The everlasting nature of dried flowers makes them so fitting for a wintry celebration. While dried blooms are often used in the place settings (see in the photos below), ceremony arches, and even hanging installations, they also make great bouquets like Brogan had! Though typically overshadowed by bigger, bolder blooms, "Baby's Breath" can be just as impactful on its own too! The cloud-like quality of these little white flowers is not only ethereal, but also incredibly dramatic when incorporated into winter wedding florals.

I had THE best time with Brogan & Josh, from our first point of contact, to their engagement session (see here) to finally capturing their wedding day – it truly was so SOOOOOO magical and an utter privilege to know them both!
