TWO OF MY FAVOURITE PLACES TO VISIT IN SURREY

On a rare sunny day in January myself and my lovely mum explored the village of Shere, located between the towns of Guildford and Dorking, in Surrey.

Shere is the absolute definition of a picturesque and quintessentially English, little suburb. With charming buildings, some of which are "Lutyens" work - an architect who fell in love with a girl who lived there and kept returning to build the next thing to impress her! There are also stunning country houses in Shere, along with a traditional Bakery, "The Lucky Duck" Tearoom, two pubs ("The William Bray", rich in history - based on the diarist "William Bray" and his connection to baseball & "The White Horse"), the town's favourite restaurant "Kinghams", the best Ice Cream Parlour going, a gorgeous little Gift Shop - a real treasure trove full of unique and personal presents, household items and stunning jewellery, and there's even a gorgeous Flowing Stream that houses a handful of ducks and geese, it really has it all.

Firmly nestled in the Surrey Hills of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Shere sits in the parish of Gomshall, Holmbury St Mary and Peaslake, surrounded by stunning scenes and popular beauty spots such as Newlands Corner and The Silent Pool. Shere also features in the films "Bridget Jones, The Edge of Reason", "The Holiday" and "The Wedding Date" if you're into your romcoms!

Whilst there, we took a leisurely stroll around the village and The Church of St James, which has a very interesting backstory to it, if you've ever read "Domesday", you'll know! After investigating the beautiful heart of Shere we went for a little walk along the river and the light was just beautiful, we could almost smell spring on its way - I'd highly recommend a visit to this perfect chocolate box hotspot.

After mooching around Shere a little, we fancied basking in even more glorious sunshine and going for a final brisk walk before returning to the comfort of our living room and slippers. We drove from Shere to Wisley, which took around 15 minutes, and found ourselves at The Anchor Pub for a massive slice of cake (carrot in case anyone's asking) and a sweet cup of hot tea (my absolute favourite) - all gobbled too quickly for a photograph, sorry!

Once suitably stuffed with cake and after sunning ourselves in the pub's outdoor garden that overlooks the beautiful river, we strolled around Pyrford Golf Club and walked further along the River Wey.  The morning light continued to please, creating a stunning haze and glow through the trees, gorgeous reflections on the water and highlighted the dewy wet grass on the paths. It was definitely food for the soul and I highly recommend a walk there, rain or shine, there's just something about this time of year and the fresh mornings it brings.
