MEL & MARTIN'S SURREY CHURCH WEDDING
In August this year, amongst shooting many other beautiful weddings, I had the privilege of photographing Mel & Martin’s stunning day in Bookham, Surrey.
“Megan is amazing! Very thorough and captures amazing photographs!” Mel.
On a delightfully sunny day in the U.K. in August this year, I headed to the gorgeous town of Bookham, in Surrey, in the South of England. Mel wanted the day to start with her bridal prep being photographed from the comfort of her own lovely home, followed by a local (and I mean literally across the road from their house) Church ceremony and ending the day with some fizz, canapés and family photographs within the Church grounds.
Mel got in contact through a mutual family friend/mother of my own childhood friend, Katie – a real treasure and utter sweetheart. I absolutely love these kinds of referrals. Not only have I known this family since the age of 10, but I’ve photographed 21st birthdays, 1st birthdays and family shoots for them all, throughout the years that I’ve been working as a photographer. I always feel so humbled by being given the honour of sharing such intimate and personal events and milestones, I am so lucky. To be so trusted, welcomed and in such relaxed company only makes me love my job even more and I’m so glad Mel reached out.
We discussed timings, shot lists and locations ahead of time, which I do with all of my couples, and this ensures that on their day, I can just turn up and crack on, a real win-win for all involved if you ask me! We also visited their local Church a few months prior to their date to triple confirm where I could stand, flash photography details and timings for the day. I always want to be as unobtrusive on a wedding day as I possibly can be, especially during a wedding ceremony and within a sacred place of worship.
Like most of my couples, Mel & Martin only had a few key shots that they wanted and noted down, to be captured throughout the day as a whole, and more specifically, at the “Group Shot” portion of their wedding photography. I felt I was really trusted to photograph those shots amongst lots of other lovely candid and natural moments that unfolded during their day.
After arriving at Mel & Martin’s home it was evident that the vibe was bustly, but relaxed. With gorgeous bridesmaids left, right and centre and delicious nibbles too! I headed to the church a little ahead of Mel to capture guests arriving and mingling - the aura was very much one of sheer excitement. Once Mel and her stunning bridesmaids arrived there were many more beautiful moments unfolding, a chat with the reverend and an emotional walk down the aisle, to name a few. The ceremony was still, peaceful and poignant, followed by a fantastic song and dance and confetti throwing.
Mel runs a catering company named “Lavender Catering” and her team had put together some delicious canapés for everyone to enjoy whilst mingling outside of the Church/within the Church grounds. Fun and heartfelt group and family shots followed before everyone headed off to a quiet evening meal, cake cut and dance.
It was a pleasure to photograph a fun, laughter and love filled day. Bring on the rest of Wedding Season!
