EXPLORING FURTHER AFIELD WITH MY CAMERA
The wonder of exploring the world with my camera will never tire. My camera and camera equipment are heavily based on the demand of photographic work that I book and shoot, but it is wonderful to "repurpose" it, and focus on its abilities to work within a natural setting where my subject may be a landscape or nature - and to still be using it in my free time too.
In January of 2019 my lovely other half and I moved from the lovely bubble that is Surrey, in the South East of England, to the good old West Country. And wow... Somerset has not disappointed. Not only can I effortlessly say I cover and regularly shoot at venues throughout the whole of the South of England, but I can now include Wales in that list too - which is amazing! I'm a hardcore Gavin & Stacey fan and being able to visit Barry gives me such joy, as well as the prospect of many wonderful days exploring and shooting in other towns too!
Generally, we've taken our time in getting to know our new surroundings... which I think is necessary when packing up and setting up camp somewhere new, in order to start growing those gorgeous new roots. It's when you start talking to others about when/how they integrated into their towns and you hear their stories of how they've only just, after 10 years of living in the same town, discovered their favourite walk, that sits just behind their house! These things definitely take time, a bit of planning and it's helpful to be a little explorative by nature.
I've compiled a list of places we've recently visited and love here, but of course, as I knew it would - the list has grown and I'm still adding to it to this day!
We've really loved thoroughly exploring the beach near us, at Clevedon Pier, it's beautiful, calm and quiet. Alas it has to be said that we occasionally fancy a bit of sand in between our toes (Clevedon beach is stony), fresh doughnuts in our bellies and the smell of greasy fish & chips in the air and Weston definitely met all our needs. The pier could not be more different to our own... it was bustly, busy and even hectic... definitely ticking that "seaside town feel" box.
It was also lovely to sneak off, away from the madness and to explore the two woodlands nearest to the centre of town. One with gorgeous views, the other with stunning bluebells. Who could complain?! I'll definitely be going back to Leigh & Prior Woods for "Bluebell Sessions" next year, as this spot in Somerset would make for a fabulous addition to my usual "Family Mini" Shoots that I do around this time of year, in early spring.
I absolutely love photographing my families surrounded by stunning, natural scenery. It makes for a relaxed atmosphere and lets me capture your loved ones at their most "them" - great for all those candid giggles.
Keep your eyes peeled for vouchers and shoot details!
