ALL THERE IS TO KNOW ABOUT A "MICRO WEDDING"
The Micro Wedding trend is growing incredibly quickly – and it’s about so much more than simply saving money. So, what exactly is a Micro Wedding, and why would you opt for one? I’ve written this Blog Post to highlight all the info you need to know before deciding if a Micro Wedding is right for you!
So firstly… What is a Micro Wedding?
A Micro Wedding is a Wedding with less than 20 guests in attendance. Being smaller in size, it’s usually cheaper, more relaxed and shorter in length than a traditional Wedding Day. It differs from both an Elopement and an ‘Intimate’ Wedding. An Elopement is typically done in secret and will only be attended by the Couple marrying and their two witnesses, whereas a Micro Wedding is a full Wedding Day, just on a much smaller scale. A Micro Wedding might be similar to an Elopement, where there might only be the Couple and two witnesses, but it will differ as it will not be done in secret and is a fully thought-through and planned Wedding Day, just with a smaller guest list. Micro Weddings are also different from Intimate Weddings in that an Intimate or Small Wedding will typically have between 30-60 guests, whereas Micro Weddings will have less than 20.
And Secondly… Why are they so great?
Smaller Guests Lists – Some Couples aren’t keen on being in the spotlight and having so many eyes on them, so a smaller number of guests can certainly put Couples at ease on their day. Another benefit to a smaller guest list is you’ll have so much more time to actually be present with the guests that you DO have, to talk, connect and chill with a glass of something fizzy! This will also probably mean that there’s more time for photos too, with smaller Family Groupings and less time being needed for mingling. Overall, it’s just a nice relaxed vibe for your day! Some Couples have also said that they’ve often found when booking their Wedding Venue that there’s been a pressure to invite those long distant Family members and Friends (or plus ones they’ve never even met) just to fill the Venues' capacity! Then if you think about also providing a meal/drinks… this all starts to add up rather quickly. Having a smaller guest list could be a blessing in disguise in more ways than one! Your wedding is all about you and your other half when all is said and done! Having just your nearest and dearest there to celebrate your day with you both, will make it all the more special.
More relaxed – Micro Weddings usually come with less to organise as it takes the planning process right back to basics, with what’s important to you both at the forefront of the day. Even if you still choose to have a party to celebrate at a later date, it will come without the pressure of a full Wedding Day allowing you to fully enjoy both events!
Costs - When you reduce the number of guests at a Wedding, the cost will naturally go down. If budget is a big consideration, a Micro Wedding might be a great choice. It’s also a good option if you want to focus on the quality of your guest experience. With fewer guests in attendance, great hospitality in a beautiful setting can be affordable. Many Micro Weddings can also take place mid-week and this actually opens up a large variety of venues that you may have considered out of budget, but which can offer you a great deal on a small guest list!
The effects of COVID-19 are still having a huge impact on Weddings and the restrictions on the number of Wedding guests able to attend, this of course, is encouraging more and more couples to either opt for a Micro Wedding or to postpone those larger events to a later date (or BOTH!).
Out of all the sadness of recent times, the Weddings that I HAVE been able to capture during this Pandemic, have truly been epic and a real opportunity for Friends and Family to come together (even if they have to stay two metres apart!) and to celebrate the joy of love in all its simplicity – which let’s face it, is the real beauty of it, when all is said and done.
If you find yourself in a position where you and your partner are considering a Micro Wedding, then (along with all of these other benefits) the one key thing that can provide long-lasting memories really is your Wedding Photography. I have been able to offer shorter, more intimate Packages (see here) and included in my Wedding Booklet are desired Shot Lists, so we really can keep it as formal or as untraditional as you’d like!
