WINTER WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY IN SURREY

At the end of this year, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Amy & Greg’s Christmas wedding day at Old Thorns Hotel in Surrey. I just absolutely love a winter wedding! Generally, the end of April to the end of September, are my busiest times for photographing weddings and this probably has something to do with those months being some of the warmest we have here in the U.K. – although this can be unpredictable!

So, for anyone who may be contemplating a winter wedding… here are ­6 reasons why I think they are great too!

​

• Less stress - The risk of rain and wind can be somewhat worrisome for couples getting married in England. If you take Mother Nature out of the equation and know exactly what you’re getting… your suppliers, guests and family can all prepare accordingly.

​

• Less sweat – Planning hair/make-up or a suit that doesn’t need to be able to withstand the heat really isn’t something to be taken for granted, nor how irritated, cranky, and sweaty your guests can become when mingling at a summer wedding in the scorching sun. You can always add layers to combat the cold, but in the hotter months, well, you can't exactly take them off!

• More choice – Lots of wedding venues & wedding suppliers get booked quickly during the summer months, which of course may mean slight price increases too. However, those same locations and suppliers may have more availability during the colder months.

​

• Value for money - As well as venue pricing - travel and hotel stays are also at peak pricing in the summer months, generally when schools are off and families are on their holidays. Winter weddings not only allow a couple to save £££, but also wedding guests can take advantage of off-season pricing for their travel and accommodation options!

​

• Free decorations - Any venue you select will most likely already be decorated for the holiday season, adding a more celebratory feel to your special day, and at no extra cost to you!

​

• It really is a magical time – From the colours, florals and décor, there are so many beautiful options for your wedding theme, if your style is romantic you’ve got shades of winter white and lots of greenery, and if you're going for a rustic-cosy vibe you’ve got wood, fires, and deep rich hues. This season is definitely one to be embraced, get those cosy blankets and serve a hot signature cocktail/or chocolate... or both!

Wedding fatigue is a real thing that guests can feel in the summer months, but with the dark evenings drawing in and everything past Halloween being quite quiet, your guests have something to really look forward to in their calendars and will be itching to get out there and celebrate with you both!

​
